Sunnyhurst Estate Winery, established by Laine and Mark Staniford in 2000 at the historic 1896 Sunnyhurst Homestead is located just 3 Kms from the town centre of Bridgetown (click here for map) in the Blackwood Valley Wine Region of Western Australia just over an hours drive east of Margaret River. http://www.blackwoodvalleywine.asn.au/  

The Winery  was intended to be a retirement (you have to be joking!) project for Mark who has held an interest in wine since establishing  The Wine Mine in North Fremantle in 1967 in partnership with John Tate (founder of Evans and Tate); and also as a place for son in law Ashley to practise whilst studying wine making at university. Laine says she is going to choose the hobby next time!

The Homestead features a rambling garden, containing over 700 Heritage and David Austin roses (retirement you say?). The gardens are included in the Festival of Country Gardens which attracts large numbers of garden enthusiasts to Sunnyhurst each May and November. Customers are welcome to wander through the gardens at other times of the year.

 Winemaker Mark Staniford and consultant Winemaker Ashley Lewkowski make a range of red table wines from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot and white table wines from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Riesling. The grapes are hand picked and wine made in our own beaut little winery.

Awards and Medals. We are justly proud of the four gold, three silver, and more than 20 bronze medals, as well as three "best of class" trophies which have been awarded to us in Australian wine shows since 2003. The Sunnyhurst Tasting Room and Gallery, located in the homestead  garden is where visitors can taste all our wines, enjoy an exhibition of paintings and other works of art by well-known West Australian artist Valerie Steel and select from Laine's delicious home made jams, marmalade, chutneys, olives and olive oil.
